Protecting Cheshire’s Wildlife for the Future

Cheshire Wildlife Trust is a charity that works to protect and enhance wildlife in the Cheshire region. As part of our role to safeguard our fragile natural heritage, we manage 45 nature reserves which help to protect endangered species, rare plants, and threatened habitats. We are all about people taking action for wildlife at a local level.

As our natural environment including ponds, woodland, grasslands and peatlands is disappearing, and we have been losing our wildlife heritage to development, pollution and intensive farming, it is all the more important to preserve our unique local area and its wildlife to help maintain the balance of nature. Therefore we are taking on a broader role within the region in the light of the increasingly important environmental agenda.

Spotting seals at Hilbre Island

Friday 17th July 2009 10am – 3pm – Wildlife Watching

Hilbre Island is steeped in history and is ideal for bird watching. Some of the species that may be seen include oystercatcher, curlew, shelduck, dunlin and knot. There is also a colony of grey seals which spends most of its time hauled out on the sand bank and can also be seen bobbing around in the sea around Hilbre. Rock sea lavender grows on rocky sea cliffs and is Hilbre’s most important plant. Not suitable for children. To book call Sharon Speck 01948-822204 or email
