PRESS RELEASE

9th April 2008

Established engineers turn their attention to wildlife in Cheshire

An engineering firm with almost 150-years of history in Cheshire has extended its commitment to the local area by pledging support for Cheshire Wildlife Trust.

Nuttall, a civil engineering contractor, based in Northwich, has become a corporate member of the conservation charity, and its staff are showing a keen awareness about the impact construction operations can have on the environment.

As well as supporting the Trust with the financial contribution of membership, Nuttall also hopes to arrange some voluntary teambuilding weekends carrying out conservation work in the county.

The family company was established in 1865 by Edmund Nuttall, who started work on roads and sewers but subsequently went into partnership with his sons taking on dock, bridge and railway work as well. Today it employs over 3000 people and is responsible for 4,500km of highways and associated structures in Cheshire.

Steve Addison, project director of Nuttall, says: “Becoming corporate members of Cheshire Wildlife Trust embraces the company’s environmental awareness and shows we’re taking positive actions to support our community vision.

“We hope that by informing our employees of our corporate membership and highlighting the important work of the Trust, we’ll encourage staff members to support the Trust outside of work too.”

Allan Stubbs, corporate membership officer for the Trust, says: “It has been an honour to welcome such a prominent and well-established local company to the Trust and its support is sure to have great benefits to the conservation work we do in the county.

“Nuttall’s additional dedication to organise volunteer weekends and encourage involvement from its extensive supply chain partners shows the company’s true willingness to support the Trust in a whole variety of different ways.

“We look forward to a long and beneficial association with the company during the coming years.”
