Cheshire Wildlife Trust take on Tatton's tenth show
Cheshire’s wild wetlands and tranquil orchards will be united on common ground next week as Cheshire Wildlife Trust prepares to host an interactive display at the tenth anniversary RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park.
Following the success of the Trust’s RHS Silver-Gilt medal winning ‘Haven’ garden at last year’s event, this year the conservation experts will create an unusual stand that celebrates two of the county’s most fascinating habitats and the work they are doing to protect them. One half of the feature will celebrate the wonderful wildlife of the county’s wetlands, and the other will embrace fruit growing and local varieties in the Trust’s new rescue orchard.
A miniature pond will feature on the wet half of the stand so visitors can identify the wildlife typical of Cheshire’s wetlands and experts from the Trust will bring along examples of plants like loosestrife, hemp agrimony and marsh woundwort to inspire visitors to encourage wildlife in their own outdoor spaces.
The fruity part of the stand on the other side will contrast dramatically with bright pictures of Cheshire’s rarest fruit varieties and an orchard specialist on hand to recount the fascinating tales behind fruits such as the Toadback Pear and the Wareham Russett Apple. Visitors can also sign up to sponsor a tree in the Trust’s rescue orchard, which was launched earlier this year.
And between presenting wildlife gardening talks daily in the Gardening in Action Marquee, Sue Tatman, from the Trust, will be on the stand to meet visitors and provide hints and tips.
Sue Tatman will be talking in the Gardening in Action Marquee everyday except Friday 25th July. Tony Gentil, the orchard specialist, will be on the Gardener’s Question Time panel and on the stand on Wednesday 23 July.
