Corporate meets conservation in Cheshire countryside

Cheshire Wildlife Trust has enjoyed more than one helping hand this month as corporate members Bentley Motors and M&S Money prove they are not afraid to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in to conservation work during some volunteering sessions around the county.

A group of volunteers from M&S Money spent the day at the Trust’s head quarters at Bickley Hall near Malpas to help erect an important protective fence that had been paid for by the Chester-based company. The fence will protect a roadside hedge, which will become a natural wildlife and bird corridor encouraging wildflowers to flourish and birds to nest.

And in a separate boost to the Trust’s work, a group of 17 graduate trainees from Bentley Motors spent three days clearing willow trees around the 10,000 year old glacial lake Bar Mere in preparation for the building of a bird hide next year.

Margaret Cheshire, head of people and organisational development from Bentley Motors says: “Volunteering for Cheshire Wildlife Trust is likely to become an important part of our graduate training scheme, but will be included in other team building activities, not only because the work carried out is invaluable to the preservation of our local environment but the team building experience brings people together from all over the world and encourages cooperative working in a real life situation.”

Allan Stubbs, corporate membership officer for Cheshire Wildlife Trust says: “Volunteers are essential to the work of the trust and when corporate members such as Marks & Spencer Money and Bentley Motors extend their commitment by really getting involved on the ground it greatly helps us to achieve our preservation objectives.”

For more information about becoming a corporate member of Cheshire Wildlife Trust or to find out about volunteering opportunities please call Allan Stubbs on 01948 822205 or email astubbs@cheshirewt.cix.co.uk
